Q: I had a really weird orgasm with my girlfriend the other night. It was my second one of the night and we’d been going at it awhile. It was incredibly intense, and my ejaculate was a lot thinner and there was way more of it than usual. Like almost ten times. My girlfriend said it tasted sweet. I almost fainted after it happened. Do you know what happened to me? Was that just a normal—albeit weird—orgasm?

A: This could simply be a variation of a normal orgasm. Orgasms can range in intensity and volume from person to person or from one time to the next. Several factors impact the nature of the orgasm. These include hydration (the more hydrated, the more volume), arousal level, frequency of ejaculation and diet. As for the sweetness, this could be related to changes in your diet or hydration. The almost fainting could be due to a temporary drop in blood pressure that sometimes happens with a very intense orgasm. Dehydration, exhaustion, and rapid breathing can also contribute to feeling lightheaded.

Penis Coloration

Q: Hi Dr. Laurie. I’m writing because my penis feels fine but doesn’t quite look like the ones I see in porn or in the locker room. When I get hard, the head is dark red. Is this normal, or is this a blood flow problem or something else? Thanks.

A: It’s not really a “problem.” Blood flow to the penis can cause discoloration to the head of the penis. If this is something completely new, or you have pain with erections, then I would suggest you speak to a medical professional to evaluate the situation.
